Algerian student creates first national urban traffic congestion index
A student at the Higher School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies (ESTIN) in Bejaïa, Takieddine Rehail, has launched the "Algerian Urban Congestion Index." This digital platform monitors and evaluates traffic density across 27 Algerian cities, including Algiers, Oran, and Tlemcen, by processing real-time data from online mapping services rather than physical sensors. Developed during an internship under the guidance of Professor Faïçal Azouaou and the LITAN laboratory, the tool enables a comparative analysis of traffic flows throughout the day. This technological achievement serves as a valuable resource for urban planners and traffic engineers seeking to improve road safety and optimize urban mobility.
