Arab League calls for international probe into mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners

The Arab League has called for an independent international investigation into reported crimes against Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip held at the Ramla prison. In an official statement, the organization highlighted that inmates in the 'Rakevet' section suffered injuries and burns due to repeated acts of repression and abuse. The League demanded that the International Committee of the Red Cross and independent monitoring bodies be granted unrestricted access to the facility to ensure medical care for the injured and the immediate release of sick and wounded prisoners. These abuses were condemned as violations of international humanitarian law and classified as crimes against humanity that warrant legal prosecution. The organization urged the international community and UN bodies to take action to protect Palestinian prisoners and end impunity. According to the Palestinian Prisoners' Information Office, detainees have been subjected to systematic assaults, including the use of batons, tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, and stun grenades. As of October 2026, the number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons was estimated to be between 9,350 and 9,400.
