Kamel Baddari, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced an increase in the number of Algerian institutions featured in the 2027 Times World University Rankings. According to the minister, 31 higher education institutions were ranked, compared to 28 in the 2026 edition. This achievement places Algeria first in the Maghreb region and second in Africa regarding the number of ranked universities. Nationally, the University of El Oued topped the list, placing within the 1200-1400 global bracket. This prestigious ranking goes beyond basic statistics, evaluating universities based on research quality, citation frequency, global impact, research reputation, and the output of research work in proportion to the number of faculty members.
