Algerian jewelry artisans eye global market expansion
Algerian jewelry makers are aiming to increase their presence on the international market, leveraging the popularity of traditional Algerian pieces on specialized online platforms and at global trade fairs. The craft commission of the Onspea is partnering with the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) to promote local jewelry and ensure the visibility of artisans at major global events. CACI has pledged to assist artisans in negotiations with the National Agency for the Transformation and Distribution of Gold and Precious Metals (Agenor) to guarantee a steady supply of raw materials at official prices. These export ambitions follow the tightening of regulations in 2026, which now require prior tax authorization for the import and export of gold and precious metals as part of national anti-money laundering efforts.
