Setif Ramps Up Cereal Production with 150,000 Hectares Target
The wilaya of Setif is gearing up for the new agricultural season by increasing its cereal cultivation area to 150,000 hectares, up from 140,000 last season. The planned acreage includes 100,000 hectares for durum wheat, 31,000 for barley, 15,000 for soft wheat, and smaller plots for oats and triticale. To ensure efficiency, a fleet of 4,639 tractors and 10,200 seed drills has been mobilized, along with over 31,000 quintals of fertilizer. Financial assistance remains a pillar of this strategy through the 'R'fig' credit program; 507 out of 522 loan applications have been approved, representing an investment of over 410 million dinars. These measures aim to reinforce Setif's status as a top-tier cereal-producing region essential to national food security.
