Algeria Launches National Liver Transplant Program
Algeria has reached a significant medical milestone with the launch of its national liver transplantation program. A formal agreement was signed between the "Pierre and Marie Curie" University Hospital Center (CPMC), the National Social Insurance Fund (CNAS), and liver transplant specialist Professor Karim Boujemaa. Presided over by the Ministers of Health and Labor, the event designated the CPMC as the national reference center for these procedures. The CNAS will cover all costs, from diagnostics to surgical procedures and post-operative care. This program, which focuses on living donor transplants for adults, is designed to minimize the need for medical transfers abroad and enhance national medical self-sufficiency. Additionally, a national registry for donors and recipients will be established to ensure transparency and proper planning. The initiative aligns with national health priorities to modernize the medical sector and improve the quality and accessibility of specialized care.
