Algeria deploys National People's Army units to Niger to protect joint interests
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has authorized the deployment of the National People's Army (ANP) to Niger, following an official request from the Nigerian authorities. This decision, announced on October 26, 2026, received unanimous approval from both houses of the Algerian Parliament. The primary objective of this military mission is to ensure the protection of the energy and economic interests shared by the two countries. This deployment follows previous security support provided by Algeria to Niger, including military equipment donations and aerial patrols, aimed at preserving stability in the Sahel region amidst ongoing external threats.
