Passenger traffic declines by 16% for Algerian ferry lines at Alicante port
Alicante port reported mixed performance for the first nine months of 2026. While container freight surged by 33.5% compared to the previous year, passenger traffic on routes served by Algérie Ferries and Nouris Elbahr Ferries dropped significantly. Data shows a 16% decline in passenger numbers on lines connecting Alicante to Algeria, falling from 148,646 to 124,876 travelers. Port Authority President Luis Rodríguez pointed to possible fleet reorganization and internal instability as potential factors for this shift, noting that despite fewer passengers, the number of vehicles transported on these specific lines actually increased by 4.5%.
