The World Health Organization has reported that hypertension disorders during pregnancy cause approximately 42,000 maternal deaths annually, accounting for 16% of total maternal mortality worldwide. Furthermore, these complications result in over 500,000 cases of stillbirths and neonatal deaths. To address this, a new global roadmap has been introduced to strengthen prevention and care for conditions like pre-eclampsia. The initiative aims to overcome significant challenges, including limited access to blood pressure monitoring, insufficient diagnostic tools, and a shortage of skilled health workers, particularly in low- and middle-income regions. Pascal Allotey, an official at the organization, emphasized that early detection and timely access to emergency obstetric care are vital to saving lives.
