Algeria Commissions Its Largest Solar Power Plant
The Minister of Energy and Mines has officially inaugurated a major solar photovoltaic station in El Oued province, standing as the largest in the country and the second largest in Africa in terms of production capacity. Spanning 600 hectares, the Foulia site features 650,000 solar panels with a total output of 300 megawatts. Completed over 22 months, this facility is part of the national roadmap to generate 15,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2035. While the project involved Chinese partnership, its operation is fully managed by Algerian technical experts. This initiative aims to diversify energy sources, meet rising electricity demand, and lower natural gas consumption for power generation.
