Riyad Mahrez continued his scoring streak in the Qatari league by netting his second consecutive goal for Al-Shamal during the eighth round of the competition. The Algerian international leveled the score against Al-Sadd via a penalty kick earned by his teammate Baghdad Bounedjah in stoppage time of the first half. Despite this, Al-Shamal failed to recover, ultimately falling to a 4-1 defeat. The team played with ten men following the red card shown to Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane just before halftime. Al-Sadd secured the win with goals from Giovani Henrique, Mohamed Camara, Akram Afif, and Roberto Firmino. Al-Sadd now sits temporarily in first place with 18 points, while Al-Shamal remains on nine points.
