Security services in Souk Ahras province have dismantled a national network specialized in electronic fraud and money laundering. Active since October 2025, the group operated through a fake Facebook page titled "Academic Center for Researcher Support," luring students and researchers with fraudulent offers to assist in writing and publishing scientific papers. Once trust was established, members directed victims to WhatsApp to transfer money to third-party postal accounts, which was then converted into illicit virtual assets. Searches led to the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of various equipment and documents. So far, 35 victims have been identified across several provinces. The defendants were presented before the public prosecutor at the Taoura court and placed in pre-trial detention on charges including conspiracy, money laundering, and identity theft.
