France faces nationwide strikes scheduled for November 5

French labor unions, led by the CGT, have called for a nationwide strike and joint cross-sector protests on November 5. The action is in response to the government's upcoming budget proposal, which includes social spending cuts, wage freezes, and concerns regarding the decline in purchasing power. Major labor organizations, including the CFDT, Force Ouvrière, UNSA, and Solidaires, are expected to participate. This escalation follows ongoing protests since September, which have affected education and drawn inspiration from the Yellow Vests movement. In response, the government is preparing to bolster security, potentially deploying the military to secure facilities and considering the implementation of curfews in certain areas ahead of expected protests this coming Saturday.
