Oran expands religious education sector with 30 new Quranic schools
The Department of Religious Affairs and Wakfs in Oran has granted licenses to 30 new Quranic schools to address rising demand. According to Ghrissi Cheriet, head of the training and Quranic education department, this expansion supports a system currently serving 34,333 students across the wilaya, ranging from preschool children to secondary school pupils. The network, which includes 536 boarding students, is supported by over 1,000 instructors and volunteers. Modern Quranic schools are experiencing significant growth, utilizing updated pedagogical methods to facilitate memory and learning. These institutions see attendance figures climb to over 20,000 during summer vacations. Local officials emphasize that despite the availability of digital learning tools, maintaining physical, local schools remains crucial to ensure equal access to education, especially for children without home access to technology.
