The construction of a new technical landfill center in the municipality of Houari Boumediene, Guelma, is progressing rapidly, with delivery scheduled for next February after a 20-month timeline. The teams involved are currently overcoming technical challenges, including rocky terrain, to complete the 250,000 cubic meter landfill basin, leachate treatment systems, and sorting facilities. During an site visit, the Governor of Guelma emphasized the project's importance in addressing the region's waste management crisis. Serving ten municipalities, such as Oued Zenati and Ain Makhlouf, the facility aims to eliminate random dumpsites and reduce pressure on the saturated Bougorgar center. Equipped with advanced environmental protection technology, the site is designed to prevent soil and groundwater contamination while mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from organic decomposition.
