Stellantis El Djazair urges Opel owners to stop driving over Takata airbag risks
Stellantis El Djazair has issued an urgent directive for owners of Opel Astra H, Astra J, Cascada, Meriva B, Mokka, and Zafira C models to stop driving their vehicles immediately. The safety recall is due to faulty Takata airbags, where chemical components can degrade over time, particularly in hot and humid climates. This degradation risks the inflator rupturing during deployment, which could cause fatal or serious injuries. Stellantis offers free replacement services and has provided an online portal and phone number for owners to book appointments. This follows similar actions taken for Citroën and DS models in August 2024. Globally, over 901,000 vehicles manufactured between 2005 and 2017 are affected, with German regulatory bodies also strongly advising against operating these specific vehicle series.
