Western Sahara: Oubi Bouchraya Bachir praises Russian veto against US draft resolution
Sahrawi presidential advisor Oubi Bouchraya Bachir has welcomed Russia's use of its veto power to block the latest UN Security Council resolution regarding Western Sahara. Describing the move as a "red card" against Washington, the diplomat criticized the US for acting in its own national interest rather than upholding international law. Bachir argued that the US approach, rooted in the Trump administration's policies, seeks to validate Moroccan claims over the territory while undermining the MINURSO mission's original mandate for self-determination. By vetoing the resolution, Russia has effectively challenged the attempts to replace the Sahrawi people's right to choose their future with a framework solely favoring Moroccan autonomy.
