QatarEnergy expands footprint in Africa with strategic Algerian partnership
QatarEnergy is broadening its reach across the African energy sector through a series of collaborative exploration and production projects. A key highlight is the company’s entry into the Algerian market via the 14,900 km² 'Ahara' exploration permit, located at the intersection of the Berkine and Illizi basins. Following the 'Algeria Bid Round 2024' managed by ALNAFT, the project is structured with state-owned Sonatrach holding a 51% stake, while QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies each hold 24.5%, with the French firm acting as the operator. This regional expansion mirrors the group's broader African strategy, involving investments in Libya, Egypt, Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, the Congo, and South Africa. By partnering with established energy giants, QatarEnergy effectively manages exploration risks, a model sustained by the robust financial results the company reported for the year 2025.
