"Shadow of the Sand": A cinematic tribute to the unity of the Algerian Sahara
The Ibn Zeydoun hall in Algiers hosted the premiere of the TV film "Shadow of the Sand," directed by Walid Bouchabah with a screenplay by Noureddine Oughlisi. Produced by Algerian television, this historical work explores the French colonial attempts to divide the Sahara from the northern territories. The film highlights the courageous stand of historical figures like Cheikh Bayoud, who rejected any compromise on national unity, and depicts the personal sacrifices of militants like Zohra and Khelifa. By revisiting the February 1962 demonstrations in Ouargla, the movie illustrates the collective popular resistance against colonial efforts to partition Algeria.
