Melvin Mastil under pressure: Is his spot in the national team at risk?

Algerian goalkeeper Melvin Mastil is facing a critical period as his poor form at Lausanne-Sport threatens his position within the national team. During a recent 4-5 defeat against Thun, the 26-year-old conceded three goals in the dying minutes, highlighting his current struggles. His club is enduring a dire season with six consecutive losses, sitting at the bottom of the Swiss league table. Mastil’s statistics this season show 22 goals conceded in 12 appearances, with only two clean sheets. With the upcoming national team gathering, the potential return of Luca Zidane could jeopardize Mastil's starting role, which he held during the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. The goalkeeper must quickly improve his performance to convince coach Brahim Hemdani to maintain his trust.
