Army General Saïd Chengriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, said on Monday that efforts to combat terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime would continue.
He made the remarks while presiding over the appointment of Major General Noureddine Haddad as commander of the First Military Region, succeeding Major General Ali Sidan. Chengriha said the army’s high command gave the region special attention because of its distinctive characteristics.
He called for continued preparation of combat forces to ensure they remain ready to deal with emergencies and adapt to changing circumstances and developments. He also urged sustained and effective action against terrorism, drug trafficking and related crimes, in support of security and stability throughout the region.
Chengriha praised the results achieved against the remnants of terrorist groups. He said targeted operations had eliminated several criminals, pushed back the groups and thwarted their plans to threaten the safety of citizens.
