When Khomeini stood stunned before the language of the Quran and the Amazigh language
In 1979, the Algerian president sent his Minister of Religious Affairs to Iran. This minister, may God have mercy on his soul, was Amazigh and spoke 7 languages; the last one he learned was Swedish while he was the representative of the Algerian revolution in Sweden. When he entered to meet Khomeini with his accompanying delegation, he greeted him with the Islamic greeting, but Khomeini replied in Persian. The minister, who was quick-tempered, became enraged and replied to Khomeini: "I am Amazigh and you are Persian, I am a Muslim and you are a Muslim, and the language that unites us is the language of the Quran. Either you speak to me in the language of the Quran, or I will speak to you in a language for which you will never find a translator in all of Iran." Khomeini gave a thin smile and then spoke to him in Arabic. During the return flight to Algeria, someone asked the minister what language he meant that would have no translator, and the minister replied with a smile: "Amazigh." The entire delegation burst into laughter. It is important to mention here the positions in which Mouloud Kacem combined determination and self-respect, leading him to say to President Boumédiène after a disagreement: "I would rather be a doorman in Sweden than a minister in a weak government." He did the same around 1971 when he went on a visit to Russia. Upon arriving at the airport, he learned that a ministry official was there to receive him; he refused to disembark from the plane and returned to Algeria, justifying his position by saying that if he had stepped off the plane to be received by a regular official, it would have belittled the value of Algeria. He told the Russians that he "would not enter their country unless a person of ministerial rank came to receive him." Upon returning to Algeria, he submitted his resignation to President Boumédiène, who refused it. Mouloud Belkacem Nait Belkacem passed away on August 27, 1992, in Algiers and was buried in El Alia cemetery. He is the one who said to his daughter, Algeria: "Oh Algeria, oh wretched one, were it not for your name being Algeria, I would have given you a beating," because of his intense love for the nation. May God have mercy on the minister and on all deceased Muslims.
