The Egyptian group Elsewedy is planning an industrial project in Algeria focused on the production of electric and hybrid vehicles. Speaking at the NAPEC 2026 event in Oran, CEO Mostafa Awad announced that a feasibility study has already been submitted to Algerian authorities. The project aims to manufacture vehicles with an 80% electric and 20% gasoline configuration, targeting a local integration rate of 50% to 60%. This initiative is part of a broader $1.3 billion investment plan covering various sectors such as steel, PVC resins, and power transformers. While the timeline and location for the factory are not yet finalized, the project highlights the company's commitment to expanding its industrial activities within the country.
