Canadian poet Anne Carson wins the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature

The Swedish Academy announced on Thursday that Canadian author and poet Anne Carson has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. Ingrid Carlberg, the academy's permanent secretary, stated that the 76-year-old writer was surprised by the news while in Iceland. Carson was recognized for her innovative body of work that blurs the lines between poetry, fiction, and scholarly research, frequently reinterpreting classical Greek myths through a modern lens. Her notable works include "Eros the Bittersweet" and "Autobiography of Red," alongside unique translations of classical authors. Previously honored with the Griffin Poetry Prize and the Princess of Asturias Award, she will receive 12 million Swedish kronor as part of the Nobel recognition.
