Strengthening Grain Storage: 46 New Silos Under Construction in Algeria

Boumediene Omrani, a central director at the National Cereals Office, announced that 46 new grain silos are currently being built, consisting of 30 concrete and 16 metal structures. These projects are intended to boost national storage capacity and ease the burden on farmers, operating alongside 350 existing local storage facilities. For the current sowing season, the Office plans to supply up to 3 million quintals of high-quality seeds, focusing on expanding agricultural land, particularly in the southern regions. To streamline processes, 78 unified service counters have been established, ensuring that farmers receive their payments within 36 hours of delivery. Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture has initiated a program to increase the production of pulses, supporting the state's broader strategy to ensure food security.
