Algerian research center develops new medium for animal artificial insemination

The Biotechnology Research Center in Constantine has developed a new medium for preserving animal semen used in artificial insemination through a specialized cooling technique. Developed in partnership with the National Center for Artificial Insemination and Genetic Improvement, the medium keeps samples viable at temperatures as low as -160°C. Field tests have yielded success rates exceeding 60% in sheep. To reduce reliance on imports, the research center plans to establish a production unit to supply the national market with this essential substance for livestock, including goats, sheep, cattle, and horses. Additionally, the center is upgrading its genetic infrastructure to select ideal breeds for improved meat and milk production.
