CAF Officially Reverts to Biennial Africa Cup of Nations Schedule
The CAF Executive Committee has unanimously decided to restore the biennial format for the Africa Cup of Nations, abandoning plans to host the tournament every four years. This move follows a strategic review conducted in Cape Verde. CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated that the previously proposed African Nations League requires more time to develop the necessary financial resources for sustainability. The decision is intended to protect the interests of the 54 member associations and professional players. The 2027 edition will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Subsequent tournaments are scheduled for 2028, 2031, and 2033, skipping 2030 to avoid conflict with the World Cup.
