The preliminary rounds of the inaugural international Quran memorization and recitation competition began on Wednesday, organized by the Grand Mosque of Paris to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The initiative aims to promote the study of the Quran and foster global connection among Muslims. The event has attracted over 1,000 participants. The Rector of the Mosque, Chems-Eddine Hafiz, appointed a jury of scholars and experts, including Cheikh Hocine Ouailili and Cheikh Amar Regba Cherfi, to oversee the process. Currently, 160 pre-selected contestants are being evaluated, largely through video conferencing to ensure broad participation. The final stages are scheduled to take place at the Grand Mosque in Paris this November, further highlighting the institution's ongoing role as a prominent religious and cultural landmark in Europe.
