UN Security Council: Plot to bypass Sahrawi self-determination thwarted
Sidi Mohamed Omar, the Polisario Front's representative to the UN, announced that efforts to undermine the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination have been defeated. During a UN Security Council session, Russia exercised its veto power against a US-sponsored draft resolution concerning the MINURSO mission. Conversely, the US vetoed a Russian proposal that sought to uphold the established principles of decolonization regarding Western Sahara. The Sahrawi diplomat described this event as a historical milestone that thwarted attempts to legitimize the occupation. Attributing the outcome to the resilience of the Sahrawi people, he urged the UN to realign the peace process to guarantee a just and lasting solution for the Sahrawi people.
