Jorf Torba Dam reaches full capacity
The National Agency for Dams and Transfers announced that the Jorf Torba dam in Béchar province has reached 100% filling capacity. This milestone follows recent heavy rainfall in the western and southwestern regions, including the High Plateaus. This water supply is vital for farmers in the Saoura basin and the Abadla plain, who rely on it for irrigation. While the dam has a theoretical capacity of 365 million cubic meters, siltation reduces its effective volume; in September 2024, it held over 247 million cubic meters at full capacity. Excess water is currently being released into the Oued Guir. This surplus is seen as a major boost for regional agricultural activities.
