In a historic legislative move, both chambers of the Algerian Parliament have voted to authorize the deployment of the National People's Army (ANP) units to neighboring Niger. The approval follows a request submitted by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune under Article 91 of the Constitution. During closed-door sessions, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf presented the rationale behind the mission. Lawmakers expressed their support for the decision, emphasizing that the move is aimed at protecting Algeria's energy interests and fulfilling bilateral agreements with Niger. The cooperation notably involves significant investments by the national energy company, Sonatrach, in the hydrocarbon sector within northern Niger.
