El-Oued: Algeria inaugurates its largest solar power plant
On Monday, Minister of Energy Mourad Adjal inaugurated a 300-megawatt solar power plant in the wilaya of El-Oued. Located in El-Foulia, Guemmar, the facility spans 600 hectares and features 650,000 solar panels, completed within a 22-month timeframe. As the largest solar site in Algeria and the second-largest in Africa, it is a key component of the nation's goal to produce 15,000 megawatts of clean energy by 2035. The plant aims to bolster the national electricity grid and reduce gas consumption. The project, developed through an Algerian-Chinese partnership, highlights the role of local expertise, as Algerian engineers and technicians have been instrumental in its construction and operation. This follows the commissioning of other solar sites earlier this year, including those in Tendla and El-Ghrous, marking a significant step in the country's energy transition.
