Oran has launched an extensive rehabilitation effort to preserve its historic urban fabric. Wali Brahim Ouchène recently inspected renovation sites on Larbi Ben Mhidi Street, where progress on some buildings has reached 80%. The ongoing works, resumed after the lifting of a freeze on the sector, focus on restoring facades, roofs, staircases, and communal areas, while ensuring the original architectural style is maintained. The initiative covers 145 buildings across key streets such as Mohamed Khemisti and Maâta Mohamed El Habib, with 137 of these prioritized under the supervision of housing authorities. Meanwhile, in the historic Sidi El Houari district, the severe dilapidation of several structures has necessitated the relocation of 923 families to safe housing, paving the way for the demolition of buildings deemed hazardous to the public.
