Administrative court rules in favor of Algerian national against French prefecture
An Algerian citizen residing in France has successfully challenged the Hauts-de-Seine prefecture in court after officials failed to respond to her request for a renewal of her residence permit, filed in December 2024. The administration's silence was interpreted as an implicit refusal. Her lawyer, Me Fayçal Megherbi, took the case to the Cergy-Pontoise Administrative Court, noting the lack of justification from the authorities. The court ruled that the implicit refusal was illegal, citing a clear breach of the 1968 Franco-Algerian agreement. The judge ordered the prefecture to re-examine the case within two months and to provide the applicant with a temporary permit allowing her to work. Furthermore, the state has been ordered to pay 1,000 euros in legal costs.
