The Ministry of Internal Trade, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and security services, has intensified inspections across commercial spaces to ensure the stability of potato prices and essential goods. This move follows a recent surge in potato prices reaching 120 DA per kilogram. A reference price has been established, ranging from 60 to 70 DA at the farm level, capped at 90 DA for end consumers. Authorities are managing the systematic release of cold storage stocks to bridge the seasonal production gap and prevent hoarding or price gouging. These oversight campaigns also enforce price display regulations and product safety standards. The government emphasizes that illegal withholding of food stocks is a serious economic crime subject to legal action, as all strategic reserves are monitored to maintain market stability.
