Algeria launches a task force to expand the use of treated wastewater in agriculture and industry
The Ministry of Water Resources has established an intersectoral technical committee tasked with developing strategies to increase the reuse of treated wastewater in industrial and agricultural activities. This move follows presidential directives and recent government mandates. The task force includes representatives from the departments of agriculture, environment, finance, research, and industry. Its primary mission involves analyzing the performance of current treatment plants, overcoming operational obstacles, and implementing technological solutions to improve efficiency. Algeria currently operates 237 treatment facilities with an annual processing capacity of 1.2 billion cubic meters. This network is set to expand through an ongoing program that involves building 76 new plants and modernizing existing sewer systems and pumping stations.
