Algeria calls for two permanent African seats on the UN Security Council
Speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Algeria's permanent representative emphasized the critical need to reform the Security Council to address structural flaws. He asserted that the reform process must prioritize rectifying the historical injustice faced by Africa due to its lack of representation. Algeria reaffirmed its support for the common African position, calling for the continent to be granted at least two permanent seats with full privileges, including veto power, alongside five non-permanent seats. According to the Algerian diplomat, this measure is essential to restoring the credibility and representativeness of the Security Council.
