French Court Rules in Favor of Algerian Woman in Residency Permit Dispute
An Algerian national living in France has successfully challenged the implicit refusal to renew her residency permit. After applying for a renewal through the Hauts-de-Seine prefecture in December 2024 and receiving no response, she sought legal intervention. On October 27, 2026, the Cergy-Pontoise administrative court ordered the suspension of the administrative refusal, citing potential violations of the 1968 Franco-Algerian agreement. The court has mandated that the prefecture re-evaluate her application within two months. During this review period, the individual must be issued a temporary permit allowing her to work. Furthermore, the court ordered the state to pay 1,000 euros in legal costs.
