Road Safety: Gendarmerie warns of truck blind spots
As part of its ongoing road safety campaign, the Gendarmerie Nationale has issued a warning regarding the dangers of blind spots around heavy goods vehicles. Motorists are urged to remain cautious, as the elevated position of truck cabs does not guarantee a full view of their surroundings, leaving significant areas invisible to the driver. The Gendarmerie emphasizes maintaining a safe distance, especially during poor winter weather conditions, and advises against driving alongside trucks for extended periods to avoid the impact of air displacement. Drivers are encouraged to verify visibility by checking if the truck driver’s face is visible in the side mirror, while maintaining constant vigilance and ensuring sufficient side clearance when executing overtaking maneuvers.
