During an interview in Baku, Infantino played down the backlash against the project, which intended to sell commercial rights to private investors before its cancellation. Despite demands from continental bodies for full transparency and documentation, Infantino continues to tour the globe to gather support for his re-election campaign ahead of the March vote, pointing to renewed backing from Asian and African federations. He insisted that the responsibility for leadership ultimately rests with the 211 national member associations.
