The Sahrawi people are openly questioning why the United States continues to obstruct their right to self-determination, a principle famously championed by former US President Woodrow Wilson as a cornerstone of sovereignty. From the perspective of the Sahrawi population, American policy—rooted in the 1975 Madrid Agreement and sustained through their influence at the UN Security Council since 1991—has directly prolonged their humanitarian crisis. By consistently pushing for autonomy plans instead of a referendum, Washington is criticized for sidelining international law in favor of Morocco.
