New assessment system introduced for first-year primary students
The Ministry of National Education has announced new evaluation arrangements for first-year primary school students, effective for the 2026-2027 academic year. Instead of numerical grades, progress will be monitored through descriptive comments and qualitative assessments across all three terms to better reflect competency levels. According to the directive issued on October 24, 2024, this pedagogical approach focuses on tracking individual learning progress rather than just numeric results. Additionally, promotion to the second grade will be automatic for all students who attended classes regularly. While the first grade follows these specific guidelines, the method for calculating averages in other primary school years remains consistent with the practices of the past two years.
