Algerian star Riyad Mahrez made his first appearance for Al-Shamal during their match against Lusail in the Qatari league. The forward joined the club on a free transfer following a successful three-year stint with Saudi side Al-Ahli, where he won two AFC Champions League titles and the Saudi Super Cup. Following his debut as a substitute, Mahrez stated that he needs time to regain his full match fitness and competitive rhythm, as he had been away from official games since the World Cup. He thanked the Algerian and Qatari fans for their warm reception and emphasized his commitment to adapting to the local conditions to help the team, which currently sits fifth in the standings.
