At the third Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, Sifi Ghrieb, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highlighted Algeria's offer to provide its ports as transit hubs for landlocked African nations to facilitate trade and lower transit costs. This strategy aligns with broader regional initiatives, including the trans-Saharan highway, fiber optic links, and the trans-Saharan gas pipeline—currently under construction in Adrar—as well as power plants in Niger and Chad. While Algerian ports operate around the clock, they face technical constraints regarding deep-water access for large container ships. Plans for a deep-water port in Boumerdès are intended to address these limitations. The government aims to establish these maritime corridors within the next five to six years, targeting full operational capacity by 2030 or 2031.
