Tlemcen: Progressing work on the Marsa Ben M'hidi desalination plant

Construction work is ongoing at the Marsa Ben M'hidi seawater desalination plant in Tlemcen, which is set to reach a production capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day. The project aims to provide drinking water to approximately 3 million residents across Tlemcen and neighboring provinces, as part of the national water security program. Senior officials from Sonatrach and Cosider inspected the site, noting the successful completion of site preparation and initial earthworks. The 15-hectare facility will utilize reverse osmosis technology and is expected to produce 150,000 m³ in its first phase, creating 1,500 jobs in the process. This development is part of a broader strategy to increase desalinated water production to 5.7 million cubic meters daily by 2030.
